Along with presenting the Flora and Fauna on the map… we are aiming to show some sentiment and words from the logbooks. See below for some early designs around this.

When we visited Techniquest two weeks ago, we quickly realised that it will be important to keep the rotating toblerones at a height (i.e. out of the way of little fingers). Examining the exhibit space, we started to sketch out the below scenario. The rotating toblerones will present the weather Read more…
Lets have a go at making the printed circuit board (PCB) shell duck. The back side of the PCB (see below) would make an antenna so it can work as a capacitive field. It has some small tabs that we can solder on some wires to create the antenna. The Read more…
Seeing the exhibition space and surrounding exhibits has made the DAPTEC project ever more real. We all now have a clear idea of the scale that we will need to work to and also a standard of interaction that we need to attain. Thank you to the Techniquest team for Read more…
Wow… this week one of the DAPTEC team introduced the rest of us to the world of Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) art. There is so much to play with. The aesthetic of the wall piece map is now taking on a slightly new presence. See below for some emerging ideas.
The first step for us has been to determine the survey points on Flatholm island for the chosen Flora & Fauna (seagull, shellduck, spider, slowworm, wild leek, bluebell, butterfly and moth). Once we have a good idea that these are accurate, we can start to really refine the aesthetic and Read more…

Moving from a detailed map of Flatholm island, we start to think about how we can capture an impression of where the Flora and Fauna are located on the island. Using iconography and colour, we explore ways of representing the survey points of the Flora and Fauna on the island. Read more…
Exploring the same sequence of Toblerones but different lighting / angles. It is amazing how the sound can enhance the experience (i.e. draw out the mechanical feel).
This week some deep analytical thinking and research have started to happen around the island and seagull story in relation to the NASA sea level rise data. We may need to consider having more than 4 movable pieces since there are more than 4 contributors to green house gas emissions Read more…
